Ayrshire East district came into being on 1st September 2005. Formally the district comprised of Kylesmuir and Kilmarnock & Loudoun districts.

These districts were overseen by Ayrshire Area, however after reorganisation of Scouting within Scotland on 1st April 2008, areas were merged to form Regions. 

Ayrshire East is now part of the Southwest Region which incorporates 5 districts (Ayrshire East, Dumfriesshire, Galloway, Kyle & Carrick along with North Ayrshire & Arran).

Geography of the District.

The district covers an area of 490 square miles in southwest of Scotland from New Cumnock & Dalmellington in the South to Dunlop in the north.

The local authority in which the district is situated is East Ayrshire Council.

The 3 largest towns in the district are Kilmarnock (pop. 46179), Cumnock (pop. 9039) & Stewarton (pop. 7065) - 2011 Census.
